Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy aims to help a person overcome negative patterns of thought/behaviour by using the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious changes. This is thought to help at a deep level when the person needs support to make changes that they feel they are struggling with at a conscious level. Hypnotherapy does not make someone go to sleep, it helps to connect to a deeper part of the brain which opens up to positive suggestion when relaxed. A person receiving this treatment is always aware and there is no sensation of being out of control.

Hypnotherapy is widely endorsed as a treatment for habit breaking, stress related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. In recent years, it has been recognised by the medical world after a recommendation from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) endorsed hypnotherapy as a treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Hypnotherapy is a gentle way of connecting with your deeper self, the part of you that helps you in all sorts of situations. It is safe, non-invasive and highly effective for helping reduce the symptoms of illness you are experiencing.

Types of Hypnotherapy at the Langton Smith Clinic

Traditional/suggestion hypnotherapy involves the therapist imparting a series of ‘suggestions’ to the subconscious mind with a view to positively influencing thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This form of hypnotherapy is often employed in situations where there is no root cause that needs addressing, and can also be used effectively on a short-term basis to foster change in a limited number of sessions.

Hypno-psychotherapy

A hypno-pscyhotherapist differs from a hypnotherapist in that they will have undertaken training in psychotherapy theory and practice. This integrative approach utilises both techniques to help with deeper problems that may not be able to be addressed with hypnotherapy alone (for example trauma or abuse), allowing the therapist to use their training and skills in psychotherapy to provide a supportive and empathic therapeutic relationship.

Julie is a senior accredited clinical hypnotherapist and Transpersonal Psychotherapist with many years of experience working with symptom related issues such as IBS, sleeplessness, anxiety based issues, weight loss, fear and phobias as well as relationship and personal challenges.

Past Life Regression

Some fears, phobias or behaviours are thought to be linked to a past life, this is a specialised area of working with an individual to discover if there are any significant past life events that are affecting a behaviour such as addiction, fear/phobia, sense of depression/anxiety and self defeating actions. Past life does not necessarily mean that a person will go back into another life but it sometimes helps the individual to understand why they are doing something that they want to stop, it can be a very interesting form of working to find out about a deeper sense of self.
